Dear college friend, it gets better
I am writing from an airplane on my way home from the city that never sleeps. Two college roommates and I just took a girls trip to New York City! We shopped on 5th ave we ate at the best dinners and we walked our feet off. But what I thought you might be interested in, is our conversation reminiscing college days.
After our last day of walking around the city, we crashed at the hotel and started reminiscing who we were and how we have grown up over the years.
We looked up people on facebook we hardly remember to see what they were up to these days. We laughed at the stupid things we did, and we praised Jesus we didn’t marry any of those guys who used to make us cry.
After a good spell of laughter, Anna said with all sincerity something that inspired this post.
“Can you believe we have everything we have ever wanted?”
We all got quiet for a moment and then we smiled. Anna was right. At some point in our college days, we all suffered from a broken heart. We all wiped each other tears, and we all had late night conversations concerned over our future.
Yet here we were, reunited in the city that never sleeps, husbands back home taking care of the kids, jobs we love, and a faith that has grown more than we could imagine. And to think, we used to worry.
My point is, hanging with my college roommates reminded me of how big those feelings were. Those breakups were excruciating, my insecurities were debilitating, and fear of the future was unsettling at best.
To the college girl reading this who is in the midst of all those big feels right now, I just want to let you know, it gets better.
Even though today it hurts like heck, one day you will be so thankful you and that guy broke up.
You will forget the names of the people you tried so hard to impress.
99% of the things that are worrying you right now will soon be a drop in an ocean.
Your career path will probably take an unexpected turn and you will be thankful.
You will walk through hard things and it will make you stronger.
You won’t get everything you ever wanted, you will get better.
If you are super lucky you will get to go to your favorite city in the world with your best girlfriends and laugh until you cry about all the things that you used to worry about.
Dear sweet friend, it gets better, so much better.
If this post was helpful I’d love it if you shared with a friend!
