Chasing Dreams and Long-Distance
Are you trying to balance chasing your dreams and a long-distance relationship? So was Kayla, and she tackles all the questions that come with that. Kayla moved from Georgia to Nashville to pursue her own dreams, which made her relationship long-distance for two and a half years. On this episode, she shares insight and guidance on how to focus on pursuing your aspirations along with maintaining a healthy long-distance relationship. Furthermore, Kayla reveals how to stand confidently in her relationship with God.
As Kayla begins her story, one thing remained constant in each aspect of her life: God at the center. After graduating from Georgia Southern, she felt a tug to pursue her dream in Nashville of working in the music industry. She moved there only knowing one person, so it was a terrifying change right out of graduation. Because of this, Kayla had to figure out how to make a new community in Nashville, and she shares what worked for her in this podcast episode. If you are struggling with finding new community, listen to this podcast. Kayla reveals learning how to be confident, bold, and consistent with God in the uncertain situations.
As Kayla moved to Nashville, her boyfriend moved to Atlanta. Now, they are four hours apart doing a long-distance relationship. Kayla’s best piece of advice was having clear expectations, great communication, and intentional time together. Their focus was for them to follow the path God had for both individually. In doing so, this allowed God to grow them individually and use them where they were. Kayla expresses the beauty of long-distance with time management. Her time previously spent with Codi was now devoted to God, her new friendships in Nashville, and finding a job. Reminder: God is not here to steal your joy; He is here to give it.
Wrapping up the episode, Kayla mentions the hallway. Most people do not speak about the hallway because it is the hardest place to remain confident in God’s plan for your life. Therefore, Kayla reminds us of God’s faithfulness in the in between. Although it may seem far away or impossible, God will make a way if it is in His will. If you are wrestling with the hallway, Katie offers mentoring for a place to talk. He cares about us, even the little, tiny details in our lives. She helps us learn how to balance chasing dreams and have a long-distance relationship with having God at the center. Kayla urges us to run to James 1 in our times of discouragement. James 1:2-3 says, “Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness.”
